Overview of PTCA Balloon Technology

The first devices, for interventional cardiology were Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) balloon catheters, developed in 1974 & intended for revascularization of blocked coronary arteries. Forty years later, they remain a primary workhorse device in Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI). While stents have taken the limelight in terms of the primary focus in PCI, balloons are still the method used to initially revascularize the vessel and to deliver, inflate & post dilate the stents into coronary arteries. 1

Differentiating Features of PTCA Balloons

Angioplasty balloon catheters can differ in size, material used in their construction and the compliance. Depending on lesion morphology and severity PTCA balloons require unique features such as, lesion-crossing capability, vector force or pressure to push plaque out of the way or break up the calcium.

AMS's revolutionary technology is specially designed to succeed in the most challenging coronary anatomies due to the fastest deflation time, superior controlled and enhanced performance properties of trackability, crossability and navigablity in a wide range of complex lesions.

NC ADVA GLIDE

  • Toughest balloon material assures wider working range and thinnest balloon wall (0.008 mm) delivers tight wrap orientation which facilitates lesion crossing.
  • 42º short taper balloon facilitates precise focal dilatation and minimizes vessel injuries.
  • Ideal for accessing complex tight lesions including Chronic Total Occlusions.
  • Controlled balloon growth, ideal for post-dilatation confidence.

ADVA GLIDE

  • Best in class balloon material assures wider working range and thinnest balloon wall (0.008 mm) delivers tight wrap orientation which facilitates lesion crossing.
  • 42º steeper balloon cone angle deliver focal dilatation and reduces edge dissection.
  • Best in class Pushability for the most complex anatomies.
  • Extensive balloon working range provides ultimate confidence for pre-dilatation.
